MUSAR Instructor Development & Onboarding

Welcome to the Michigan Urban Search and Rescue Training Foundation (MUSAR) Instructor Development and Onboarding Course. This course is designed to provide new and existing instructors with a clear, consistent foundation for operating within MUSAR’s training programs while supporting ongoing professional growth.

As an instructor, you play a critical role in delivering high-quality, standards-based training. This course serves three primary purposes:

  • Instructor Onboarding
  • You will be introduced to the core systems that support MUSAR operations, including Microsoft 365 for communication and collaboration, the MUSAR website for program access and coordination, and the LearnDash Learning Management System (LMS) for course delivery and student engagement.
  • Job Performance Requirements (JPRs)
  • This course outlines the expectations for instructors across all disciplines. You will learn how to demonstrate and document the knowledge, skills, and instructional competencies required to teach within MUSAR programs. These requirements are aligned with applicable standards and ensure consistency, safety, and quality in every course we deliver.
  • Ongoing Instructor Development
  • MUSAR is committed to continuous improvement. This course will serve as a central location for program updates, instructional best practices, and evolving teaching methods. Instructors are expected to return regularly to stay current with new techniques, standards, and expectations.

This is not a one-time course. It is a digital job-book and a living resource that supports your development as an instructor and ensures that MUSAR training remains relevant, effective, and aligned with industry standards.
